If you have more than one child in school or you are on a limited budget, you'll appreciate these five frugal ideas that will make any teacher's day.
Home baked goods
The easiest and most inexpensive way to give a teacher a gift they're sure to love is to make something from scratch. Cookies, bread or candy are always welcome. If you have several teachers to buy for, it makes this gift even more practical.
Coffee or tea
Look to specialty stores for inexpensive gourmet brands that will be appealing without costing you a fortune. You can pair the gift with some decorative mugs so they can enjoy their drinks immediately. A little chocolate goes well with this type of gift, too.
Small box of stationery
Find inexpensive yet quality stationery at a warehouse office supply store or piece one together with coordinating envelopes and cards. Add in a stylish yet inexpensive new pen and a book of stamps and you'll have a complete present that the teacher will appreciate.
Personal gifts
Teachers all have their own little quirks and preferences. From the start of the school year, begin paying attention to what the teacher uses a lot in the classroom. Maybe he's fond of drawing on the white board. Maybe she loves post-it notes. Maybe your child's teacher uses cute stickers to praise children for a job well done.
Depending on the budget at your child's school, your child's teachers might have to buy these items out of pocket. Make a teacher's contribution a little bit smaller by presenting them with these items as a holiday gift.
Organize a community gift
Email makes it easy to organize a class gift. Send a quick note to the parents and ask if anyone would like to contribute, all together, for a more meaningful gift. You can ask for a certain amount, $10 or so, perhaps, or leave the amount open and ask everyone to contribute just what they can this holiday season. Some will contribute a small amount. Others will be in a position to contribute more. Use the donations to purchase a card at a bookstore, an office supply store, or a local day spa. Then present the card, signed by the parents of the class, with the gift certificate, gift card, or other special gift.
As with any teacher gift, the most treasured part of the present will be the accompanying letter or card that expresses your true feelings about the teacher, with specific examples of a time when he or she made a difference in the life of your child, so don't leave this part out.
